Core Municipal Infrastructure...
The federal government has made progress over the past several years in recognizing the need for investment in Canada’s core municipal infrastructure. Between 1993 and 2004, $12 billion in federal money has been allocated under a number of different infrastructure programs (click here for the Infrastructure Canada website with more information on the existing programs.) The 2005 federal Budget committed to renewing and expanding these programs as they expired – a key TRIP Canada objective.
In the 2005 budget, the federal government announced a gas tax sharing arrangement with municipalities to fund municipal infrastructure. Click here for more information on the gas tax sharing announcement.
